TBCo Celebrates B Corp Month 2023

 Recycled wool

Becoming a  B Corp-certified brand is an incredible achievement in itself, but being certified right before B Corp month? That can only be described as great timing. At TBCo, we’re celebrating B Corp month and its theme of #WeGoBeyond by heading to India to visit our Recycled Wool partner mills.

#WeGoBeyond for our supply chain

Transparency surrounding our supply chain is important to us and reflects our commitment to pursuing a positive impact path as a business. We regularly take the trip out to our partner mills to develop the relationships we have with them well as gain a deeper understanding of the sustainable practices they implement.

We aim to see our partners annually to stay up-to-date on any future developments and improvements, keeping ahead of the curve and continually reviewing best practices to ensure we’re operating in the most ethical way possible.

Having a direct relationship with our suppliers means we can ensure we’re meeting our own goals, and helping our partners achieve theirs - going above and beyond to improve our supply chain and have a positive impact on the planet and its people

Developing these partnerships with stakeholders means we can collaborate on reducing our carbon footprint and create innovative solutions that benefit not just the environment, but our communities and customers. For example, our involvement has helped install an innovative water treatment mechanism which allows the mill to reuse water and reduce consumption.

Another way we collaborate with our Recycled Wool partner mill is through supporting their community in India - we regularly donate to Sewadham Ashram, a charity integral to our partner's wider community. The fringing on our Recycled Wool blankets is hand-rolled, providing job opportunities and a fair wage for the primarily female workforce (which reflects TBCo’s own workforce!) in a community in need of more work opportunities.

As well as going above and beyond for our supply chain, we also go beyond what visits to our partner mills can mean for our product ranges too.

How TBCo Recycled Wool Blankets are made

Our Recycled Wool process starts with pre-loved clothes making their way to India, said to be the recycling capital of the world, where our blankets save on average six woollen garments from landfill. After a process of washing, sorting, breaking down the fibres and re-weaving, our Recycled Wool Blankets are born.

From there, any off-cuts are repurposed into our Pet Blankets - but we want to go beyond, to go one step further. One of our goals for our team’s India trip is to help with product development; we want to expand our Recycled Wool story and see how we can help grow and develop the range through off-cuts, or fabric and fibres that may have otherwise gone to waste.

As TBCo continues down the B Corp road map, we want to create a considered supply base that helps us, our mills, and you, our customers, to have a positive impact through your purchases.

How are we going beyond this B Corp month?

Being a B Corp brand means being transparent about our goals, and how we plan to have a positive impact as a business. So in the spirit of sharing, #WeGoBeyond by:

  • Reviewing and improving our supply chain so it benefits us, the suppliers and - most importantly - the planet.
  • Improving how we communicate not just to our partner mills, but sharing their story with you.
  • Supporting our partners to go beyond themselves - for example, helping mills get their GRS certification, improving their setups and supporting their communities.

Supporting B Corp brands

Being a B Corp brand is for life, not just for March, but this month we’re taking time to celebrate the positive impact achievements, improvements and future goals have - and for us, sustainability starts with the supply chain. Read more about TBCo’s B Corp journey
